Biodiesel

Biodiesel is produced from vegetable oils and used cooking oils. Catalysts such as Potassium Methylate are used to convert these oils into biodiesel.

Potassium Methylate belongs to the alkoxide family and enables the rapid and efficient transesterification of triglycerides into Fatty Acid Methyl Esters (FAME). Thanks to its high catalytic activity, it is widely used worldwide in biodiesel production and various chemical applications.

Our KM32 – Your Benefits

  • Proven product quality
  • High reactivity
  • Excellent process efficiency
  • Low processing costs
  • High availability
  • REACH-compliant supply chain
  • Suitable for large-scale industrial applications

Transesterification

Oils and fats consist of triglycerides, which are molecules formed from glycerol and three fatty acid chains.

During the transesterification process, triglycerides react with methanol in the presence of a catalyst. The reaction produces Fatty Acid Methyl Esters (biodiesel) and glycerine as a valuable co-product.

The resulting glycerine is widely used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetics and chemical industries.

Applications

Potassium Methylate is used in:

  • Biodiesel production
  • Fine and specialty chemicals
  • Pharmaceutical industry
  • Agrochemicals
  • Polymer and plastics industry
  • Organic synthesis
